Unis need Accountability

One of the things you learn in the "real world" (i.e, away from airy-fairy university), is that if noone is held accountable, then everyone will do what they want. This applies to lecturers at universities moreso than the general public.

Why do I say this? Well, coming from the ACT's college system (which, in my opinion has one of the best methods of grading people I've ever seen), into uni is a shock. No scaling, no standardisation, and the lecturer's word is final. For those of you not from Canberra, I'll give you a quick run-over how it works.

Stupid Coomputer

For anyone that doesn't know of my computer record, the last time I broke this computer it just wouldn't get out of sleep mode. The techies in at the shop said the ram was apparantly missing, which is hard to believe since I don't think anyone was opening up the guts. And a whole lot of files were corrupted.

Netspeed SUCKS

You've all heard me have a whinge about Netspeed before. Some of you have even seen the letter(s) of complaint I've sent them... Yes, boys and girls, as you guessed by the topic, it's time for another Netspeed Rant!!!

Saturday night.

So. I was in Sydney over the weekend staying with some schoolfriends. Now one of their favourite clubs in Sydney is Stonewall, a wonderfully skeezy gay nightclub. Now, nominally it is a "gay and lesbian" bar, but in reality there's just a lot gay boys and their straight female friends. Now one is bound to wonder why on earth there are so many straight girls at such a wonderfully falmboyant gay bar. I mean, they have no chance of picking up and the drinks are expensive and they'll have to PAY FOR THEM THEMSELVES!!!!!

New Shirts!!!

YAY!!! The yellow shirts at work are no more! We can all rejoice and sing praises unto the heavens. Thank ye O mighty one that deemed we would no longer have to wear bananaised-canary shirts. They are blue and the back doesn't even think about asking wether or not you'd like a coffee...

Why I hate The Greens Party

There's so many things I hate about The Greens Party. Perhaps it's because their policies are terrible and conflicted. Or perhaps it's because many of the people associated with them participate in pointless annoying protests.

1. Pollution is bad
Under a Greens government, roads would get less attention, because cars make polution and polution is bad. The Greens would likely impose further taxes on cars and petrol. But that's fine, because they'd probably make public transport free. I'm sure you all know how much I hate public transport.

Why I hate John Howard.

This morning I was listening to the radio as I pretended to myself that I wsa studying. Apparently now there are two different versions of how Doug Wood was rescued:

1. The Australian version
There was a tip-off! We rushed in to rescue him, action movie style. Aren't we heroes? Isn't the government wonderful? Oh sing our praises!!!!!

2. The Rest of the World Version
We were doing some routine checks and accidently stumbled across this dude in some shed in Baghdad. Turned out to be some Aussie guy who'd been kidnapped. Who'da thunk it?

AI Hurties

So yeah, if I haven't complained to you about AI "COMP3620", then you don't know me very well. But for your sake, I'll indulge you.

At the beginning of this year, I had a choice between two courses:
- Artificial Intelligence (COMP3620), or
- Operating Systems (COMP3300)

I'd heard that the OS course was quite difficult (having to write a kernel module is one of the assignments), so I decided to pick AI.
