I attend an energise class every Tuesday. I say Energise instead of Dance Aerobics since it sounds less gay. Anyway the instructor is guilty of performing complicated movements and not explaining them very well. Usually it's just one step you can't get, which means you end up one beat out for the set. And it's really hard to work out which step to do when she's up the front and moving very fast.
So my idea is to have the instructors podium have a touch sensitive pad so that when the instructor places her feet the computer knows where she stepped. Then a large TV on the wall would show the steps the instructor is taking. It would be like those dance instructions you see in cartoons with the large feet. This way you can see the exact steps she is taking.
Alternatives to this system could have screens underneath the participants that you could follow step by step. Or the screen at the front could load pre-existing moves to display to users. I'm mean instructors usually follow the same moves just in different patterns (eg: grapevine-mambo or mambo-grapevine)
Could this idea work? I think so. It would certainly help new people in classes. A lot of people come and then never return because it's just so hard those first times (*cough* Peter *cough*). It takes awhile to train your brain to accept these new movements let alone work out what they are.
So come back next Monday for Idea #3.
