Fame and glory for you boy!

I, in my liking for nemesis have taken it upon myself to try and boost the traffic to his website. This is however will not nessecarily increase the number of people who are on his forum etc...but rather it will increase the number of hits he recieves (hopefully) and take up all his bandwidth, so then he is fucked. Well...that last bit, I don't want.

Anyway! On with the show...

To begin with today's many thousands of IPs luncheon...may I suggest a select bunch of the more odd variety of proxy. The anonymous proxy. Now, if this whole hairballed scheme comes to fruition (which I am hoping), Peter should have no fucking idea whats going on...however, as I have no knowledge wether or not anonymous traffic is counted on this website...I will just have to hope it enjoys the attention of some, 3000 or so odd IPs. Then, the main course will hopefully consist of over 400,000 of random IPs selected at random...so fuck that...i'll just run it forever. But since I am too lazy to do the main course or get the lists for it...i won't. And for desert, I will give him the graces of my own IP...yum yum.

"WTF IS THIS ALL ABOUT!?!?!" He is probably wondering.

Because I love you so much (in that special manly man way), I have decided that increasing the traffic may also increase your html and php standards. Mind you, I have very little skill at php...i still know what is good and what is not...and *hopefully*, nemesis will see the increased traffic, and think...wait a second...maybe I should redo the site and make it more nicer like hyuk hyuk.

And I love the period -----> .

he's redoing it (slowly but surely) but he's having a little trouble with the design aspects coz you see... *how do i put this nicely?* he sucks at graphic dsign and web deisgn (well maybe not as much as most ppl but damn it, he's going for salmon orange as his new colour scheme... ARGH!!!!)

now excuse me whilst i go beat it into him that salmon orange is not a colour that should be seen anywhere but on salmon!!!!

*runs off with a baseball bat*

Haha nice try geoff :P
I was looking at the logs and saw 3000 hits at 3PM US time thinking "hmmm wtf?"...

Lucky for you, you didn't use up all my bandwidth... not even close :P

Alpha: If you dislike the salmon orange so much, you're more than welcome to give me a new design *hint*hint*
Until then, don't complain :P

Hmmm Geoff,
I get the impression you LOVE realmtech.net, for the mere fact that you've taken the effort to sign up twice :P

Btw, could you show me an example of bad PHP shown on realmtech.net?...

Oh yeah, one more thing to add to my rant (well, thats what this thread's slowly turning into...)..

The hard thing about web design isn't the making it look pretty part (well, if you like 'salmon' orange..). It's making it work on *other* people's computers.

First, you have wankers who insist on running the lowest possible res their video card and monitor will support. Yes -- I'm talking about you dickheads running 640x480. Even 800x600. It's too damn small!! Then they complain when your web page doesnt fit on what little screen real estate they do have.

Second, there's the geeks who are running rediculously high resolutions. Yeah thats right. I'm talking about you guys who are running 2048x1536. It's rediculous. You can't even see wtf you're trying to read unless you have a 120" super plasma monitor or whatever. They complain your site doesn't cater for their massively huge amounts of real estate.

So with the first two points, you can't win -- no matter what you design for. Design for the low res, and you get flamed by the high res. And vice versa.

Which brings us to point number 3. Linux. I've already ranted about Linux enough on the Engineering noticeboard at ANU, but I feel the need to rant about it a little more here, because it's just so relevant.

Point number 3: Linux doesn't have a decent browser. You linux geeks are running a third world browser -- no matter what you're running. I don't care if it's Mozilla or Konqueror, Links for Lynx. It's crap. Any decent site design is going to fall over on at least one of these third world browsers.

I take for example, Mozilla. The javascript being used in the logon script on realmtech.net is simple. It basically redirects the browser back to the page the user was on when they entered their logon details.

Mozilla seems to fall over because of this script. You login, and it redirects itself back to the logon page. As the logon details havn't been entered this time, you get a Logon Failed message. Hence the user thinks it's the site's problem, instead of the browser's. Even Links seems to be able to figure out the simple piece of JavaScript.

"Oh but why don't you use a META Refresh tag?"
Several reasons:
1. Search engines dont like it
2. It tends to break the 'back' button
3. Yet more geeks don't like it.
Again, it's a no-win situation.

So Geoff, if you think the current site design is crap, there's a reason for it.

I originally did the site like this because it seemed to be the most compatible with the most browsers.

No background graphics on tables, no complex layout, etc. It works in almost any browser that can deal with Cookies. Even text based ones (such as w3m and Links). If you're so critical, I invite you to write your own.

Well, it only took about 2 mins to get those 3000 hits. I'm sure I could square that number of hits and send it to you...*hunts around for 9000000 proxies*

and about the double sign up, I couldn't remember my other password, and I couldn't have been fucked trying to figure it out (I have almost over 30 different passwords nowadays for various things...so I have to try all of those before I considering asking for another...so I have started not bothering)

And even if I did remember my password, at the time it was having wierdo problems not letting me login anyway (like, all the coding lines at the top spouting out random crap each time)...and i'm just being an asshole about saying PHP sucks...it works fine, if you aren't a smacktard.
